Skidmore goes to ESS!

Dear fellow AKD bloggers,

Over the weekend of March 20th to Baltimore we did go
To a meeting of scholars, high and low!
Presenting our research -- it was a blast
The weekend, oh it went by so fast!

The articles, the knowledge, the posters galore
We even got to look at the sociology bookstore!
To the harbor was just a short walk
Even better, we got to hear renowned scholars talk!

William Julius Wilson, he was the keynote
He was modest, well-spoken, he didn't gloat.
Subway and Dunkin', and many a store
a full sociology weekend we had in Baltimore!

High fives all around,

Insightful ESS conference

I was among one of the many poster presenters at the ESS Conference 2009 from Randolph College. It was a great platform to share my findings with other scholars, students and to get suggestions regarding what can be done to improve my current study. Moreover, it was a great place to network with people associated in similar field. There were lots of opportunities for undergraduate students to get exposed to graduate level research. The themes for roundtables and papers were diverse whether it was in the field of international development, sociological research methods, or job prospects for sociology students. I particularly enjoyed interacting with peers of different colleges.
There were other things for students to do like going to great restaurants, malls, etc. due to the proximity of Inner Harbor. On the whole, I feel that I gained alot from this conference and this kind of program is a good way of having intellectual discussions and networking.

Hello and welcome to the AKD student conference goers blog!

Here you will find the perspectives and experiences of sociology students from around the country. These students will be traveling to anywhere from New York City to Houston. As they explore these cities, they will also explore the professional academic world of sociology and what it is like to momentarily be a part of this. Enjoy!
